Kuala Lumpur or KL as the locals call it is a perfect fusion of Indian, Malaysia and Chinese culture. Malaysia’s capital is a bustling cosmopolitan city, the famous Petronas towers and extravagant malls drown the city, whilst market stalls and street food line the eccentric area of Bukit Bintang.
Whether you’re here for a shopping expedition, to try the multicultural cuisine or for a quick stop-over Malaysia will excite you and leave you wanting more!
I recently travelled around the city on a mission to find the best places to stay for every type of visit! Here are the best hotels in KL!

The Best Hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Dorsett Kuala Lumpur
172, Jalan Imbi, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur,
Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Right in the centre of KL’s Golden Triangle, Dorsett Kuala Lumpur has everything you would want in a city hotel!
The building built in 1998 has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment of its 322 room and suites, offering their guests refreshed and stylish accommodation with a prime location yet an affordable price.
I recently stayed in the Dorsett Double Room, but the hotel offers a variety of options to suit every traveller, including suites and family rooms.
The Hong Kong-owned chain is predominately run by females which shines through in the little touches that make Dorsett Hotel a top pick. In my room, I received a gorgeous teddy bear, cookies and the coolest hand drawn map. The map had special local restaurants to try as well as recommendations on what to do and see, with the corresponding walking distance. We also received a reusable shopping bag so when you are out and about you can opt out of using plastic bags!
During our stay, we were given a hands-on cooking demo by the head chefs at Checkers restaurant. We were taught how to make roti with chicken curry and then served a delicious 6-course lunch. Cooking classes are available upon request which I highly recommend it was such a fun experience cooking for the lovely head chefs! The other stand out here was the buffet breakfast, there was every food imaginable! The chefs even bring around fun sample canapes for dishes they are testing.
As well as an onsite restaurant the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur also offers a swimming pool, gym and bar. A short 5 minutes’ walk will take you to the Pavilion and Bukit Bintang. Whilst KKLC and Petronas Twin Towers are also close.

The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur
Jalan Lapangan Terbang Subang, Saujana,
40150 Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia
Following my food and cultural excursion in the Malaysia capital, I head to the calmer town of Subang. The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur is a beautiful retreat from the hustle of KL. The property sits on 160 hectres of lush tropical forest with a glistening lake and a full golf course. The resort which opened in 1998 is just a 15-minute drive(not during peak hour) from KL city centre and just minutes from Shah Alam business district.
Nestled within a paradise-like encave the resorts boasts 3 pools, 7 restaurants and a spa onsite. Surrounded by a protected forest this 5-star resort takes its name from the old Malay expression ‘sejauh di sana’ which means – as far as the eye can see.
This family-friendly resort (and locally owned) features 150 rooms, set across 3 blocks that surround a lush green compound. Each block ranges from deluxe to luxurious suites.
It is also well equiped for corporate groups, with all meeting rooms having natural light and team building activities on offer like cooking classes.
When it comes to dining you can be rest assured you will be well taken care of. With a choice of 7 restaurants, we opt for the Charcoal led by head Chef Alex Chin were we were taken on a culinary delight over 5 courses.
My favourite and one dish I wish I got the recipe for is the Black Chicken soup (the best broth I have ever tasted). Served in a coconut, it is enjoyed with a piece of black baked garlic which matches the surprise of black chicken in the soup!
Escape to the onsite whisky bar which serves up vintage tasting and a master class. Or perhaps you will get lucky and stumble upon an Indian/Australian wedding that welcomes everyone to the party. This was the second Indian wedding I have crashed and they never disappoint!
The Saujana’s tranquil ambience, generous staff, amenities and lush grounds make a winning combination for a relaxing holiday. With two adjoining 18-hole championship golf courses this is an idyllic haven for both business and pleasure.
Location: Located in the Subang Shah Alam business district, 30 mins from the airport and 20 minutes from the city centre
Atmosphere:
Facilities: Pool, gym, room service, restaurant, bar
Highlights: The food at Charcoal Restaurant, my amazingly HUGE suite, the ambience and of course the fact there was a wedding on site that invited us to enjoy the party
Dorsett Grand Subang
Jalan SS 12/1, Ss 12, 47500 Subang Jaya,
Selangor, Malaysia
Dorsett Grand Subang is a welcoming sanctuary from the hustle of KL. It’s location just outside the city centre (and just 30 minutes from the airport), means whilst the hotel retains a more relaxed vibe it is still easily accessible to landmarks and the city’s shopping district!
Nestled in the heart of Subang Jaya, Dorsett Grand Subang offers opulent guest rooms and suites with amazing amenities. I was very impressed by their Clark Hatch Fitness Centre which offers upgraded cardiovascular and free weight equipment with certified personal trainers!
As well as well-appointed rooms, a great buffet breakfast, the Dorsett Grand Subang also has complimentary smartphones which provide mobile data and select international calls for you to use during your stay!
Dining at Dorsett Grand Subang is an endless pleasurable affair with the vast international and local specialities available. My top pick is a dim sum lunch at The Emperor Restaurant.
A traditional and contemporary restaurant featuring spectacular oil paintings, authentic Cantonese cuisine and down-to-earth personalized service. During our feast in our private room, we also got a special class from head Chef in Mooncake making!
Location: Located centrally in Subang Jaya
Atmosphere: Great for groups, families and corporate travellers.
Facilities: Swimming pool, multiple restaurants, a fitness centre, premier lounge, business centre
Highlights: The private dim sum lunch with mooncake cooking demo, smartphone with data in your room, the very large gym with great equipment!
