What is the Campuhan Ridge Walk?
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a picturesque hiking trail located just a short distance from central Ubud. Stretching approximately 2 kilometres, the path meanders along a ridge with sweeping views of lush valleys, palm trees, and rice fields. Unlike Bali’s crowded tourist spots, the Campuhan Ridge Walk is a haven of peace making it one of the top things to do in Bali– perfect for those seeking to reconnect with nature.
The trail’s name, “Campuhan,” means “where two rivers meet” in Balinese, referring to the confluence of the Wos Rivers at the trail’s starting point. This area holds spiritual significance for locals, making the ridge walk not only a scenic experience but also a culturally enriching one.

How to Get to the Campuhan Ridge Walk
Location
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is located near the Warwick IBAH Luxury Villas & Spa in Ubud. The entrance is somewhat tucked away, but it’s easy to find with a bit of guidance.
Directions
- From Ubud’s main road (Jalan Raya Ubud), head towards the bridge and Warwick IBAH Luxury Villas.
- Just before the bridge you will see the sign for Warwick IBAH Luxury Villa and Spa, turn in their driveway. You will then see a fork in the road and a small sign saying ‘going to the hill’, with an arrow saying ‘go left’. When we first did the walk there was no signage, these days with it being a big tourist attraction there is lots of signage along the way guiding you to the start of the walk.
- Keep walking past the bridge and stairs. Look for a small pathway signposted “Gunung Lebah Temple” near the bridge. You are heading in the right direction.
- Follow the path that leads past the temple. This is where the ridge walk begins.
Transportation
- On Foot: If you’re staying in central Ubud, the ridge walk is within walking distance.
- By Scooter or Car: Parking is available near the entrance, but spaces can be limited during peak times.
- Taxis or Rideshares: Local taxis or rideshare apps like Grab and Gojek can drop you off at the entrance.

Best Time to Visit the Campuhan Ridge Walk
Early Morning
The best time to visit is early in the morning, ideally between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM. During this time, the temperature is cooler, the lighting is perfect for photography, and you’ll encounter fewer people.
Late Afternoon
Visiting in the late afternoon (around 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM) is another great option. The golden hour light enhances the natural beauty of the ridge, and the temperature begins to drop.
When to Avoid
The midday heat can be intense, and there is little shade along the trail. If you’re sensitive to heat, it’s best to avoid visiting during this time. I would also avoid the walk at night as the trial is not lit – plus you would miss all the stunning scenery. If you are visiting Ubud during the rainy season, just try and plan your walk when it’s not rainy, as it could become slippery.

What to Expect on the Campuhan Ridge Walk
The Trail
The trail begins with a slight uphill climb but quickly levels out. As you walk along the ridge, you’ll be greeted by panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and villages. The path is flanked by tall grass on either side, adding to the natural charm.
Highlights Along the Way
- Gunung Lebah Temple: Located near the entrance, this beautiful temple is a serene spot to pause and admire Balinese architecture.
- Small Cafés and Warungs: At the end of the trail, you will get to Jalan Bangkiang Sidem, on this street you will find some warungs and cafes where you can grab refreshing drinks and some delicious Indonesian food. Our top pick is Karsa Kafe.
- Rice Fields: As you approach the end of the trail, you’ll encounter expansive rice fields and traditional Balinese houses.

Duration
The walk takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes one way, depending on your pace and how often you stop to take photos or admire the views. If you’re planning a round trip, allow for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Note the walk isn’t a loop so if you want to shorten the walk you can turn around at any time. Alternatively, we would walk all the way to Karsa Kafe for lunch and then get transport back to our hotel.

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, consider bringing the following items:
- Comfortable Footwear: The trail is well-maintained, but sturdy shoes or sandals are recommended.
