The Beauty of Biku, Seminyak Bali

Biku Bali is a unique combination of a tea lounge, restaurant, antiques and bookstore in Bali. Inspired by Indonesia’s unique cultures, Biku offers a warm and exciting dining experience with a modern touch.

Their extensive selection tea mixed with their Ganesha bookshop makes for such a different vibe to the rest of Seminyak. Set in a 150-year-old teak joglo from east Java this hot spot is conveniently located in Petitenget Seminyak.

High tea at Biku Bali

High tea is one of my favourite things and it is something that has become more widely offered in Bali in the last few years… but with high tea, seems to come crazy prices. The difference between having a splurge and spending the same amount of money you need for your car, bike, and room payments for the month has become blurry.

This is where the beauty of Biku can truly be appreciated. It is not difficult to understand why Biku is popular. It is set in a stunning ‘Joglo’ tea house that you would normally find in Ubud, covered with walls of beautiful teapots and other homewares, and there is not one thing you can order that doesn’t taste incredible. Biku is many things… as well as reasonably priced.

Tea is Biku’s speciality. Their tea list consists of over 50 different varieties from the world’s foremost tea-growing regions. Which makes their high tea very special. You can enjoy the high tea experience every day from 11am-6pm.

You can choose from a  traditional afternoon tea, as well as their own Asian and breakfast renditions. High tea is served on fine-bone china, and bubbles are available upon request. The high tea consists of scones with jam and cream, finger sandwiches, mini quiches and a selection of sweet treats and is just Rp 140,000 per person (around $14)

Little ones are also welcome with a personalise kiddy menu! There are also highchairs available, and kids can rummage through the big baskets filled with toys and coloured pencils whilst you sit back with a book or chat with friends.

Dining at Biku Bali

Biku also has a great ala’ carte menu, including a really great all-day breakfast menu! The bircher muesli with bananas and strawberries is Rp. 40,000 (around $4.00) and the amazing tomato, avocado salsa and poached eggs with sourdough toast is just Rp. 30, 000 (around $3.00) They also have a selection of health drinks that range between Rp. 20,000 and Rp. 25,000 ($2.00-$2.50) And don’t forget about their beautiful homemade cakes! The carrot cake is my personal favourite!

Escapes the midday heat and refuel with a Biku Lunch. One of my favourite Indonesian foods is Nasi Campur and theirs is out of this world! It consists of assorted small dishes including veggies, tempe, egg, chicken curry, and sate surrounding a mound of brown rice!

Biku Bali has been doing the small things that make a difference for a long time which is why they are such a standout!  Once you have finished your meal, the waiter appears with a small wooden block with holes in it and a white tablet. When you add water to the tablet the water is immediately absorbed and expands into a refreshing facial towel. Its pretty fun, especially if you have kids or if you are still a kid like me 🙂
